With spring in the air, Mann House is getting ready for the outdoor season. The house has settled into their new location in old Family Three. The winter blues and low heads are giving way to the efforts of Family Leaders Joe and Jackie Petriella to make the house more of a family.“A day at a time Mann House is becoming more of a family; people are looking out for each other more than before,” said Joe Petriella.
The boys attended Father Stephen’s retreat during the weekend of March 5, while the majority of the girls attended an all-day softball convention at the SUNY Cortland campus. The boys returned with new attitudes and bright spirits; the girls exhausted, worn out, but happy from a day of hard work made up of drills and learning new techniques.
December 2009 graduate, Zeke G., and June 2008 graduate, Adam S., visited on a Saturday night and spent time catching up with old friends and staff while watching a movie. The two of them spent the night and the rest of the following morning at Rita Argiros’ home before they said their goodbyes and departed.
This month Mann House will be going on their hard-earned off-campus trip to a movie as the prize for winning the Winter Break competitions. Joe Petriella has decided on a movie, “Alice in Wonderland”, and the house will embark on Friday, March 19.
Buray K. is a new student at The Family Foundation School and is fitting in well so far. He is 14 years old; born and raised in South Carolina. Drugs, struggles with grades, and family problems are what ended him up here.
Currently he has been a source of fun and entertainment in Mann House and is always singing rhymes and telling jokes. Many kids and staff in Mann House see real potential in Buray and are confident in his ability to succeed.
