In Mann house this month many students have been stepping up. They have spent every moment possible outdoors playing either volleyball, football, Frisbee, guitar, cards, reading and even lounging on the grass.
About three months ago Sarah V. got accepted to Dowling and Le Moyne colleges. The money was a big factor for her and her family, but finally she made the choice of going to Le Moyne and cannot wait to start up in December. She primarily was looking at the two of them for their softball teams. She finally choose Le Moyne where she is receiving financial aid for the first year; the last 3 will be an athletic scholarship. She wants to continue to attend A.A. meetings in her local area and she also has a support group and counseling on campus to help her along. Le Moyne has a great program for building character and is a good, healthy environment for sobriety. “I’m really excited to start this new life. I know that it will be a struggle, but I have faith in myself to succeed,” said Sarah.
Rebecca C., another future college student, got into the University of Wisconsin (Madison). It is a big school with many opportunities. She likes that she has the choice to easily change her major and she doesn’t feel as though she is pressured to stay with one thing. The college is known to be big on sports and the energy from the students that goes toward cheering and motivating their teams is outstanding; becoming a part of that is exciting for her. One of the biggest parts of her going there is that they have a great pharmacy program which is what she hopes to get into and make as a career in her future. “I thought that I had no chance of getting into U.W. until I came here; this place has given me the opportunity to do so.”
