Wilson House was off to a good start in April. The house has several new students and the family is trying to give them the support and positive guidance that they need.
Everyone in Wilson House is experiencing spring fever. The family spends a lot of time outside playing volleyball and soaking up the sun. “I love the spring because I get to go outside with my friends and family and tan,” said Wilson House student Lana G.
But with the nice spring weather comes spring cleaning. Cleaning isn’t the most fun thing to do on a Saturday afternoon, but Wilson House girls are making the best of it. Pam Allen, Wilson House staff, took the girls up to the dorm one Saturday afternoon to clean, but Allen put a new twist on things and brought up her radio. The girls jammed to music while they cleaned the dorm. “We take pride in our home and in our dorm and we make sure that we’re keeping them clean,” said family leader Christine Speicher.
The seniors are checking in and really trying to put their principles and their programs into action. In her last two months, June program graduate Sam F. is finding herself face to face with the defects of character that got her sent here. Sam finds it very hard to stay in the day and do the next right thing. She knows that following the rules here is important for her so that when she leaves she can still maintain a structured life, but she finds it hard to keep sobriety as her priority.
“With the help of this school I have been able to develop the ability to be honest and open about my feelings, and to be honest with myself about who I used to be and who I am today,” said Sam who is creating a support system in her home town.
