Students Go to the Pond for Early Season Fishing

By Lee D.

Family Foundation School students have begun their journey to the pond to kick off the fishing season, which officially started on the first of the month.

Jimmy S. along with 10 other people went fishing in the morning using worms that Jimmy himself dug up. In total, four fish were caught throughout the day by various people. Jimmy caught one out of the four fish. He said, “When I hook a fish, I can’t describe the feeling of having it pull on the other end of the line.”

It is early in the season and there are many fishing days still to come. The beautiful weather that allowed for the early start is rare for this area, since it usually begins to get warm in early May.

Despite the risk of cold weather to come, Jimmy plans on trying to start a fishing club so students who would like to fish after school, would have a designated time on their schedule to go fishing in the pond. He doesn’t know if anything will come of it, but he says, “It’s a good thing for people who don’t like sports and want to have fun in the outdoors.”

Fishing at The Family School has been a fun activity for students on the weekends when they want to enjoy some quiet time in nature. Since it is hard for students to go for walks in the woods, the pond is the closest they can get most of the time.

Jimmy and all the other fishermen here at the school are looking forward to more days on the pond, where they will be able to enjoy the company of nature and their fellow fishermen.
