Puppy love ... Pam and Mike Allen cuddle with their four new furry friends.

A Litter of Gordon Setters Makes an Exciting Appearance

By Brooke C.

Family Foundation School students looked out the windows of their Houses to see a strange sight, Mike Allen pushing a playpen up a hill.

Many wondered what in the world could be going on, and still others went out to investigate.

When the students approached the playpen, they were greeted by nine puppies.

Wherever Mike and the puppies went, a crowd of students followed. This continued until staff intervened, and students reluctantly placed the puppies back in their box and walked away.

However, the mystery remained. Where did these puppies come from?

This month, Mike and Pam Allen’s Gordon Setters, Angus and Reagon, gave birth to nine puppies. This is the third litter that the Allens have bred. Pam Allen said, “Puppies are the love of my life. If I lived on a farm I’d be raising puppies.”

Pam has always felt drawn towards bird hunting dogs. At first she had English Setters, but the family now raises Gordon Setters. After the puppies get bigger, the Allens will begin to sell them to people who qualify. Pam said they look for “good people to give them a good home.”

Until this happens, the dogs may continue to make brief visits to The Family School. Mike Allen said, “I’m trying to get them used to people.” Based on reactions so far, this doesn’t seem like a difficult task; the hard part will be getting the students to hand the puppies back.
