Hancock Partners Meet to Discuss the Future of the Village
By Brendan O.
The Hancock Partners are a group of men and women who are dedicated to improving the economic and social growth of the Greater Hancock, N.Y. area.
Hancock Partners, Inc. was formed by Jerry DaBrescia, Russell Bass, Ron DeLuca and Chris Gross in late 2003. They were soon joined by Dave Theleman, Bruce Edwards, and Mike Argiros.
The group recently held their annual meeting at the Hancock Central School to present an update on their three main goals of promoting industry, tourism and beautification in Hancock, and to gain input and support from those in attendance.
The major plans discussed consisted of upgrading the village appearance, developing tourism as an industry in Hancock, selling more goods and services to second homeowners in Hancock, and making Hancock a destination. Surprisingly, Hancock is not on many maps of New York State. The Hancock Partners would like to remedy this oversight.
There was also more discussion of turning the old “Great American” lot into a town square.
There are three new businesses opening in Hancock: Sydney Federal Credit Union, “Sweet Shots” Ice-cream Parlor, and “The Perfectly Priced Store,” a second-hand variety store.
The Partners have applied for a $300,000 grant to improve the look of the town. If received, the grant will be used for new facades on buildings, and possibly some benches and planters along the roads.
The Partners have also hired Amy Kenyon, a community development coordinator. Kenyon grew up in this area of New York State and is very happy to be able to help a small town literally “put itself on the map,” she said.
