How to Get Out of the Boat …
By Brooke C.
Roxy Moses, a Methodist Pastor who leads Chapel Service on Monday, has started a new Bible Study Group this month entitled, “If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat.”
So far, the Bible Study Group has three members, Kate D., Lindsay R., and Tony W. Tony says, “Roxy has an interesting way of approaching bible study…It’s cool for me to get back to Jesus before I graduate in June.”
The group, which had its first two meetings this month, gets its name from a book If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg, a psychologist and church community pastor. So far, the group has watched the movie adapted from Ortberg’s book, and discussed it. The “Walk on Water” program is designed to teach about taking risks in positive ways. The course is comprised of six sessions, Moses’ group reviews one or two sessions a group. Kate D. said, “People are drawn towards being comfortable, but in doing that you lose so many opportunities to get out of yourself, help others, and help yourself. This group encourages me to ‘Get Out of the Boat.’”
Moses’ group will continue until they have learned and discussed all of the lessons from the book.
