Staff and Students Face Off

By Tyler M.

Students gathered around the softball field to cheer at the Student vs. Staff Softball game. With a  final score of 9-8 the student team held onto the trophy.

Students put in hours of practice in hopes of beating the staff for the first time in three years. Team manager for the students, Dan M., organized rosters, positions and batting order while Mike L. led the old-timers back into the swing of things.
The game started with nursing staff Sandy H. on the mound and pitching well until Mike L. relieved her due to knee complications. Maintenance staff Eric A. and Scott M. held the offense together with big hits into the outfield.
Scores were tied throughout the first several innings and the players knew it would come down to the final plays and they had to make them count.
Student Alex H. slammed a ball far left and sent loaded bases home, giving students a total of nine. The staff returned with two more runs but it wasn’t enough to put them on top of the scoreboard.  With the win the graduating class of June 2012 earned their place in the school history.

The well anticipated bow of approval from Mike L. thrilled the students and proved that hard work and practice pays off. The bittersweet moment marked the last day of their stay at FFS. Sportsmanship and intergrity made the game succesful. “It was fun watching everyone enjoy themselves,” said student Alex H.
